Ladies Fifth, Gents Sixth after Day 1 of SCAC Golf Championships

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Centenary Ladies golf team sits fifth after round one, while the Gents are sixth after two rounds on day one of the Southern Collegiate Golf Championships at the Panther Trails Course at the Golf Trails of the Woodlands.

Southwestern leads both the Men's and Women's Championship. The men lead Trinity by nine strokes while the women are ahead of Schreiner by eight shots.

Leading the way for the Ladies are a pair in the top six. Junior Jessica Varner, the defending SCAC Champion, sits third by three strokes with an opening round of 79 (+7). Classmate Taylor Adair sits four strokes behind Varner, firing an 83 (+11) to be tied for sixth. Adair finished the day tied for the most pars in the women's tournament.

Rounding out the women's field is sophomore Erin Rostro (101, +29), junior Shannon Orlopp (112, +40) and senior Toni Ficarra (113, +41) in 21st, 23rd, and 24th.

On the Gents side, 4-of-5 golfers either improved or shot the same total from round one to round two. Sophomore Reed Balcerowicz improved by four strokes to shoot 76 in the second round. His total of 156 (+12) is tied for 14th.

Junior Edvard Granrud shot one-stroke better in round two and has a total of 163 (+19) to finish day one 23rd. Freshman Harrison John fired an 86 both rounds and is 26th with a 172 (+28). Sophomore Brodey Warner improved eight strokes in round two on the day and sits 28th with a 176 (+32) total. Sophomore Taylor Wells rounds out the Gents field in 29th with a 181 (+37) total.

Centenary Golf returns to action tomorrow for the final round of the SCAC Championships. The Gents tee off at 8 a.m., while the Ladies follow at 9 a.m.
