Shreveport - The Centenary lacrosse team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Gents recorded their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon with a resounding 16-2 win over the Spalding University Golden Eagles in Louisville, Ky.
The Gents (1-4) scored their most goals in a game since recording a 16-10 win at Mount. St. Joseph University last season. Sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) scored a game-high five goals and finished with eight for the weekend after tallying a hat trick against Hanover College on Friday. Spivey has scored a team-high 14 goals this season with 13 coming in the last three games.
Senior M Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) scored four, freshman M Ethan Hewett (Bossier City, La.) scored three, and senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) added two. Sophomore MF Dominic Ogier (St. Louis, Mo.) had five assists and Cook and Spivey each had two. Sophomore MF Seven Davillier (Shreveport, La.) had a game-high eight ground balls and Temple and senior LSM Jackson Ossman (Shreveport, La.) each had five. Junior D Kaleb Coates (Shreveport, La.) and senior LSM Ben Vazquez (San Antonio, Texas) each had three ground balls and six players picked up two ground balls each. Junior Dylan Miller (Shreveport, La.) started in goal for Centenary and recorded a season-high 18 saves.
Centenary held a slim 1-0 lead after the first quarter and exploded for seven goals in the second quarter while Guzman found the net for the Golden Eagles in the quarter as the Gents went into the halftime locker room with an 8-1 lead. The Gents edged the Gold Eagles 2-1 in the third period and blanked them 6-0 in the final 15 minutes.
Centenary returns home for a pair of contests as the Maroon and White face Mt. St. Joseph University on Monday, March 11 at 5 p.m. and Hendrix College on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
