Swimming Teams Earn Top-5 Finishes At SCAC Championships

San Antonio, Texas – The Centenary swimming teams finished competition at the 2020 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Josh Davis Natatorium.

The Ladies placed fourth overall with a final points total of 407 while the Gents finished fifth with 305 points at the four-day event. Trinity University swept the team titles, winning on both the men's and women's side with 1,050 and 945 points respectively.

Centenary sophomore Kaylin Swoboda (New Orleans) placed third in the finals of the Women's 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:10.35. Senior Jessi Jordan (Dallas, Texas) finished third in the finals of the Women's 400 Yard IM, swimming a time of 4:48.13. Sophomore Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) nearly claimed the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly title as she finished second in the finals with a time of 57.08. Colorado College's Kate Brush won with a time of 56.97. Serret finished fourth in the finals of the 200 Yard Butterfly, swimming a time of 2:14.75.

Swoboda picked up a runner-up finish in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke final, swimming a time of 1:06.31, second to Southwestern's Reghan Hartsell, who swam a winning time of 1:05.31. She then placed second in the finals of the 200 Yard Breaststroke as she swam a time of 2:27.18. Serret also had a third-place finish in the finals of the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke. She swam a time of 59.16 while Trinity's Star Rosales won the event in a time of 57.72.

Sophomore Ricky LaFleur (Lafayette, La.) had a very successful weekend for the Gents as he finished fifth in the finals of the Men's 200 Yard IM, swimming a time of 1:55.77 and also finished sixth in the finals of the Men's 100 Yard Breaststroke. The Louisiana native also placed fourth in the finals of the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:07.51.

Centenary's team of Madelyn Frederick (Slidell, La.), Sarah Harrison (Alexandria, La.), Serret Swoboda placed fourth in the finals of the Women's 400 Yard Medley Relay, swimming a time of 4:04.74. The Gent's quartet of Eddie Dyess (Vidor, Texas), LaFleur, Daniel Lewis (Alexandria, la.), and Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, La.) also placed fourth in the event on the men's side, swimming a time of 3:38.12.

The same Ladies' foursome that swam the 400 Yard Medley Relay teamed to finish fourth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, swimming a time of 3:46.18. The Gents' team of Dyess, LaFleur, Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, La.), and Chris Reese (Alexandria, La.) placed fifth in the finals of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
