Ladies Volleyball Splits Pair of SCAC Matches on Saturday at Texas Lutheran

Seguin, Texas - The Centenary Ladies volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday versus the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Tostengard Activity Center.

The Ladies (1-3) took the first set, 3-2, and then fell 3-1 in the second set to the Bulldogs (1-5). Centenary dropped a pair of matches at St. Thomas last Sunday to open their season while TLU entered Saturday's play winless after falling in consecutive weekends on the road to St. Thomas and Austin College.

TLU won the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23 before the Ladies stormed back to win the final three sets and clinch their first match of the season. Centenary took set three, 25-20, then won the fourth set 25-17, and closed out the victory with a 15-6 edge in the fifth and deciding set.

Junior Outside Hitter Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) recorded 27 digs and 22 kills in the opening match along with 68 total attacks. Sophomore Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) had 29 total attacks, 15 kills and four digs. Freshman Caroline Richmond (Maequez, Texas) followed up her impressive collegiate debut from last weekend with 33 total attacks, 26 digs, and 12 kills. Junior Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) had 27 total attacks, nine kills, and three block assists.

Freshman Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) had an impressive 20 digs and junior Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) had a team-high 36 assists and 12 total attacks. Junior Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) had 20 assists and six digs. Centenary finished the match with 183 total attacks, 65 assists, 203 digs, and 66 kills. TLU totaled 188 total attacks, 54 kills, 83 digs, and 51 assists.

The Bulldogs took the first set of match two, 25-18, and then the Ladies claimed set two by a count of 25-21 to tie things up. TLU then won the third set, 25-19, and closed out the match in the fourth set, 25-18. Richmond had 44 total attacks, 14 digs, and nine kills. Davis had 39 total attacks, 17 digs, and 13 kills while Proctor recorded 26 digs.

Clarin-Jante posted 18 assists and five digs, Demerjian had 17 assists, and Epley had 21 total attacks, seven kills, four dogs, and six block assists. Lowe had 24 total attacks, eight kills, four digs, and two block assists. Freshman Alania Bartie (Iowa, La.) recorded 25 total attacks and had three kills. The Ladies totaled 156 total attacks in the second match with 77 digs, 41 kills, 39 assists, and 16 block assists.

The Ladies stay on the road next weekend to face Trinity in a doubleheader with matches set for Noon and 4 p.m. Centenary's home opener will be March 20 vs. Schreiner and then the Ladies will face Dallas at home on March 27. The Ladies' final two road matches of the season will be at Southwestern on April 3 and will close the season at home versus Colorado College with single matches on April 9 at 5 p.m. and April 10 at 1 p.m.
