Volleyball Falls in Hard-Fought Match Against Colorado College on Friday

Shreveport - The Centenary volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Colorado College Tigers on Friday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (3-10 SCAC) played one of their best matches of the season even in a sweep. Colorado College (13-0 SCAC) remained undefeated but had its hands full with the gritty and determined Ladies all evening.

The first set, won 25-22 by the Tigers, featured 10 ties and Centenary led nine times, with its biggest lead at 8-5. The Ladies tied it at 21-21 but the Tigers scored four of the next five points to close out the win in the opening set.

The Ladies led five times in set two and tied the score six times. The Tigers, however, rallied from an early 13-12 deficit to win the set, 25-21. The Tigers came out hot in set three, leading 7-0 and 10-4 but the Ladies would not go away and closed the gap to 14-11 before Colorado College held off the gutsy Ladies and clinched the set, 25-19, and seal the match victory.

Freshman DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) and junior DS/L Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) each had 11 digs to lead the Ladies in that category and junior Outside Hitter Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) had a match-high nine kills and added nine digs. David entered Friday's action as the conference's leader in kills. Freshman MB Caroline Richmond (Maequez, Texas) had a solid match with seven kills and six digs. She entered the match ranked second on the team in both categories.

S Brittany Risner (Mongtomery, Texas) had 14 assists and four digs, and junior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) recorded 12 assists to add to her league-leading total. Centenary entered Friday ranked third in the league in digs and fourth in both assists and kills. The Ladies tallied 30 kills and 46 digs on Friday compared to 49 kills and 60 digs for the Tigers.

Risner, the Ladies' lone senior, will be honored in a postgame ceremony on Saturday.
