Volleyball Set to Face Schreiner in Home Debut on Saturday

Shreveport - The Centenary volleyball team will finally get the opportunity to play on its home court as the Ladies face the Schreiner Mountaineers on Saturday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader set for Noon and 4 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-5) were swept by Trinity on the road last weekend, 3-0 and 3-0. Schreiner (1-7) was swept at Austin College last Saturday. Centenary defeated Schreiner in both matches last season, 3-2 at home on Sept. 21 and then 3-2 on the road Oct. 19.

Junior Outside Hitter Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) enters Saturday's play ranked second in the SCAC in kills (72) and averages 3.27 per game. She had 20 in the two matches versus Trinity last Saturday along with seven digs. She leads the team in kills and is second in digs with 74. Junior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) is currently seventh in the conference in assists (120) for an average of 5.45 per game. Demerjian is the team leader in assists and also has 27 digs and 10 kills.

Freshman DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) has made an immediate impact in her rookie season as she is sixth in the SCAC in digs (77) and leads the team with an average of 4.81 per game. Centenary ranks fourth in the league as a team in digs with 402 (18.27/game). The Ladies finished third in the nation in division III (first after the regular season) last season in team digs with 2,642 and returned five players who recorded at least 120 digs each last season.

Freshman MB Caroline Richmond (Maequez, Texas) is another rookie who has made an impact this season. She is third on the team with 55 digs and ranks second in kills with 48. Junior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) has 98 total attacks, 29 kills, and 15 digs and sophomore MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) has 134 total attacks (second on team) along with 45 kills and 16 digs.

Junior DS/L Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) ranks fourth on the team with 38 digs and second with 68 assists. Freshman S Alania Bartie (Iowa, La.) has 58 total attacks six digs and five kills. Sophomore DS Mariah Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) has recorded 30 digs, five assists, and three total attacks.

Centenary will remain at home to face Dallas next Saturday, March 27 for a pair of matches at Noon and 4 p.m. and then hit the road for the final two road matches of the season at Southwestern on April 3. The Ladies will close the regular season at home versus Colorado College with single matches on April 9 at 5 p.m. and April 10 at 1 p.m.
