Ladies To Host SCAC Crossover Tournament This Weekend

Shreveport– The Centenary volleyball team will play host to a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover event this weekend as the Ladies welcome five fellow conference schools with matches beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The weekend will feature 10 total matches on both Saturday and Sunday, played in both the Gold Dome and the campus Fitness Center (FIT). Saturday's opening matches feature the University of Dallas Crusaders (6-5) versus the Schreiner University Mountaineers (4-6) in the FIT at 11 a.m. and the Austin College 'Roos (6-6) versus the Trinity University Tigers (8-2) in the Gold Dome at the same time.

The Ladies (6-6) will face the Colorado College Tigers (8-3) at 1:15 p.m. in the Gold Dome on Saturday in their first of three matches this weekend. The 'Roos then face the Mountaineers at 3:30 p.m. in the Gold Dome and the final two matches of the day are the Ladies against Trinity (6 p.m. Gold Dome) and Dallas against Colorado College in the FIT at 6 p.m.

Sunday's schedule consists of four matches, three in the Gold Dome and one in the FIT. Centenary faces Schreiner at 10 a.m. in the Gold Dome to begin the day while Austin College and Colorado College square off at the same time in the FIT. Dallas faces Trinity at 12:15 p.m., also in the Gold Dome, and the Ladies and 'Roos meet at 2:30 p.m. in the Gold Dome in the final match of the tournament.

All seven matches held in the Gold Dome will feature both live stats and live video. The three matches in the FIT will not have live video but will have live stats.

The Ladies dropped a 3-1 decision to the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles on Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest on the road. The teams split the season series following Centenary's 3-1 win back on Sept. 6 in its home opener at the Gold Dome.

Centenary is now an impressive 11-2 in its last 13 home matches which includes nine sweeps. The Ladies, who earned a doubleheader split with Williams Baptist University on the road last Saturday, have won six of their last nine matches since beginning the season 0-3.

The Ladies currently rank in the top five in the conference in assists, blocks, digs, and service aces. Senior DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) is in the top 15 in the country in division III in digs per set (5.41) and she has 173 digs this season to go along with 23 assists and seven aces. Centenary, as a team, ranks 53rd in the country in digs per set (17.23) and the Maroon and White are 19th in attacks per set (38.57).

Senior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) is fourth in the conference services aces (16) and eighth in kills (91) and has a team-best 21 total blocks while freshman S Meadow Smith (Mansfield, Texas) is second in aces (14) and third in assists (165). Sophomore OH/DS Kiara Liedy (Sugar Land, Texas) is ninth in the league in aces and has 94 digs, six assists, and a pair of kills on the season. Freshman MB Susi Curtis (Haslet, Texas) is off to a great start in her first season with the Maroon and White as she has totaled 54 kills, 17 digs, 18 total blocks, a pair of assists, and an ace.

Senior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) leads the team in assists (191) and has 71 digs, 22 kills, and 15 aces. Junior MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas) has tallied 96 digs, six aces and a pair of kills and sophomore RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) has 77 kills, 44 digs, 13 aces, and four assists. Freshman OH Jaeda Moreno (Weslaco, Texas) is having an impressive rookie season with 38 digs, 29 kills, three aces, and two assists. Sophomore MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) has 50 kills, 17 digs, two aces, and two assists. St. Martin and Moreno have combined for 26 blocks and freshman MB/OH Jordan Wheeler (Baton Rouge, La.) has 15 blocks, 13 kills, two digs, an ace, and an assist.
