Ladies Earn Non-Conference Win At Wiley On Wednesday

Marshall, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team recorded a 3-2 win over the Wiley College Lady Wildcats on Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Ladies improved to 8-13 with the win and swept the season series over Wiley after tallying a 3-0 victory back on Sept. 13 at home while Wiley fell to 4-13 with the loss. Centenary snapped a three-match losing streak after the Maroon and White dropped all three matches in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play in Georgetown, Texas last weekend.

The Ladies won the first set, 25-18 but the Lady Wildcats evened the match with a 25-11 win in set two. Centenary recorded a 25-22 win in set three, Wiley returned the favor in set four by the identical score, and the Ladies clinched the match with a 15-11 win in the fifth set. Centenary finished Wednesday's match 69 digs, 42 kills, 40 assists, nine service aces, and six blocks. Wiley recorded 65 digs, 50 kills, 47 assists, eight aces, and seven blocks.

Senior DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) had a match-leading 20 digs and added four assists and an ace. Proctor, who entered the match 22nd in the country and second in the conference in total digs, has now tallied 20 or more digs in a match eight times this season and in five of her last seven matches. Junior MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas) had 14 digs, two block assists, one assist, and one ace.

Sophomore OH/DS Kiara Liedy (Sugar Land, Texas) recorded 10 digs and two aces, and senior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) finished with 15 assists, eight digs, three aces, and a pair of kills. Freshman S Meadow Smith (Mansfield, Texas) had a team-high 17 assists with three digs, three kills, and one ace. Senior MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) had 10 kills, four blocks, one assist, and one dig.

Sophomore MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) matched Lowe with 10 kills and added two block assists, and a dig. Freshman OH Jaeda Moreno (Weslaco, Texas) recorded five digs and four kills, and sophomore RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) finished with nine kills, three digs, one assist, and one block.

The Ladies will be back home this weekend as they host a tri-match at the Gold Dome on Saturday with The University of Dallas and LeTourneau University. Centenary will face Dallas at Noon in a league match and then LeTourneau in a non-conference contest at approximately 5 p.m. The Crusaders ad YellowJackets will face off in the middle contest at approximately 2:30 p.m.
