Art Carmody Joins Football Staff As Assistant Special Teams/Kicking Coach
Art Carmody has joined the Centenary football coaching staff, Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr and head coach Byron Dawson announced.
Shreveport – Art Carmody has joined the Centenary football coaching staff, Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr and head coach Byron Dawson announced.
Carmody is serving as the Assistant Special Teams/Kicking Coach and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Gents. Carmody, a Shreveport native who attended Loyola College Prep, went on to kick collegiately at the University of Louisville.
Carmody won the Lou Groza Award in 2006, a prestigious honor awarded to the nation's top kicker, and at the time he left college both his career PAT's and Points Scored by Kicker were NCAA Records. Upon Carmody's graduation from Louisville, he held 21 of 22 school kicking records and his career long FG made was an impressive 51 yards.
Carmody, who was an All-State selection in both baseball and football in high school, was named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press in 2006 and earned Honorable-Mention All-American honors that same season by Sports Illustrated. He was a three-time First-Team All-Big East selection (2005-07), an Academic All-Big East selection in 2005 and 2006, and named the Louisville Special Teams Player of the Year in 2004, 2006, and 2007
He was a member of the 2004 Conference USA Championship Team that went 11-1 and won the Liberty Bowl, part of the 2006 Big East Championship Team that went 12-1 and won the Orange Bowl, and played in the 2008 Hula Bowl College All-Star Game. In 49 career games for Louisville, Carmody was a stellar 60-73 (82.2 %) on field goals and 253-255 on PAT's and accumulated 433 career points.
