The Gents (2-4, 2-2 SCAC) fell 28-10 to the McMurry University War Hawks on Saturday at home and are now set for a second meeting this season against the Scots (1-5, 0-4 SCAC) after beating them 35-14 at home on Oct. 5. Lyon, 0-3 at home this season, has lost five games in a row and fell at home last Saturday to Austin College, 35-17. Saturday marks Centenary's first road game since dropping a 47-8 decision at East Texas Baptist University on Sept. 28 in Marshall, Texas.
This week's game presents the challenge of facing the same team again in a short span of time," said Centenary head coach Byron Dawson.
"Lyon is a skilled and well-coached team with experienced players. Coach Douglas and his staff do an excellent job preparing their team to compete. With it being Lyon's homecoming, we can expect a large, energized crowd. We need to build on the positives from the McMurry game and address our mistakes. It's crucial that we are ready to perform at a high level on Saturday afternoon. Now We Go!"
Centenary, which took an early 3-0 lead last week and was only down 14-3 at halftime, ran 67 plays for 197 yards last Saturday against the War Hawks, passing for 205 yards and was held to negative eight yards rushing on 31 attempts. The Gents had a solid defensive game as they had three interceptions, recorded a pair of sacks, had seven tackles for loss, and two PBU's. Centenary's three picks are its most in a single game and the Gents now have eight this season.
Sophomore LB/P/PK Vance Feuerbacher (Plano, Texas) was named the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week on Monday after another impressive all-around performance last weekend as he kicked a 24-yard field goal to give Centenary an early 3-0 lead, punted nine times for an average of 39.6 yards, kicked off three times, and had seven total tackles (five solo) from his linebacker's position.
In the first meeting earlier this month with the Scots, Centenary had 20 first downs, rushed 41 times for 215 yards and passed for 228 yards. The Gents' defense held Lyon to just 263 total yards, forced three punts, and came up with a pair of interceptions.
The Gents are averaging 273.3 yards per game on offense – 175.3 passing and 98.0 rushing and 18.0 PPG. They have thrown for 10 TDs and eight INT's, rushed for 15 TD's, and have 10 receiving TD's.
