Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: October 2 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: October 2 Edition

Hello Ladies fans! Sophomore Kendall Huff, aka K3, here, out of quarantine and ready to get back to work!

As you may have noticed from my intro, I have been in quarantine the past two weeks due to being identified as a close contact. Now that I am out of quarantine, I can't wait to get back to practice! As a team, we have all stayed positive during these odd times! On the bright side, at least for me, I am all caught up on my schoolwork! Since I am out of quarantine, I'm sure I will be very busy once again!

Technology has been a lifesaver during these last few weeks! It was great getting to see everyone even if it was through Zoom. Zoom has now become our new best friend! Even though many of us were in quarantine, we never missed a class, we were all able to participate in team meetings, and we even worked out together. And to make it even better, NO masks were required! (Only if we were by ourselves of course.)

Accountability and self-leadership are especially important this year and we are ready to work hard to achieve our goals. We are continuing to grow as a team. During our team meeting on Wednesday, we talked about our three team covenants – passion, relentlessness, and dedication. Based on these covenants, we set some high standards for this year. We can't wait to put these goals into action and start working hard as we are finally allowed to start full practices this week! Furthermore, we had a great second leadership meeting with Molly Grisham on Thursday where we discussed the "Power of Stories" and what stories mean to each of us. We also talked about the poem An Invitation to Brave Space by Mickey ScottBey Jones. I really encourage y'all to read this poem as well, for it is inspirational and encourages a growth mindset!

While the majority of us were in quarantine these last few weeks, the few who were not rocked it in the gym! Since coming back from our "long spring break," Jenny Jackson started flipping her vaults, Kendall Sanders started working a new series on the low beam – one-arm back handspring layout step-out, Jerrica Harris did half-in half-outs on the air track, and Kendall Knaps stood up double arabian bar dismounts on to a mat in the pit!

As a team, we are excited to turn up the volume on our workouts! Only three months stand between us and season, and we are working hard towards having a great one! The "free birds" who got to start practice again this week, have loved getting to know our new assistant coach, Wendy Carey!  All of us who were just recently deemed free, are also really excited to meet her! From our Zoom meeting, I feel like she will add a lot of enthusiasm to our workouts!

Don't forget to check back in to see how our first week of full practice goes! Follow us on Instagram @centenarygymnastics and Snapchat @centenarygym!!!

Have a great week and stay safe Ladies fans!

Until next time,

Your favorite Kendall ; )
