Wendy Carey Announced as Gymnastics Assistant Coach

Shreveport – Centenary athletics has announced the hiring of Wendy Carey as new assistant gymnastics coach.

Carey, a native of Amarillo, Texas, graduated from Texas Tech University and received her Master's degree from Texas Woman's University. Carey was a gymnast for the Red Raiders from 2016-19.

"I am very excited to announce the hiring of Wendy Carey to our gymnastics staff," said Centenary head coach Jackie Fain. "Wendy is a young, enthusiastic coach who is thrilled with this opportunity to be a part of the Centenary Gymnastics family."

Carey served as the Team President for the Texas Tech gymnastics squad as well as the Athletic Strength and Conditioning intern during her senior year.

"Wendy brings some really valuable experience with her in several areas that will help to compliment my strengths and give me more time for some of my other duties," said Fain. "She has several strength and conditioning certifications, which means she will be a great asset to our team in terms of helping us to continue to develop in that area."

"She also cuts music and has done choreography, so I am looking forward to collaborating with her and making our choreography stand out even more in the future. She has had the experience of running a gymnastics program having done everything from ordering uniforms, to making travel arrangements to budgeting. Again, this will be a huge help as she settles in and gets her feet on the ground. "I love Wendy's enthusiasm and her passion for the sport of gymnastics," said Fain. "She is going to be an asset to this program as she continues to gain experience."

"I am honored and excited to be the women's gymnastics assistant coach here at Centenary," said Carey. "I have worked to build my sports science education and hands on experience in preparation to building my career in coaching collegiate gymnastics."

"Beginning my collegiate gymnastics coaching career here at Centenary has been an amazing experience from day one. The student-athletes are extremely dedicated to both athletics and academics here at Centenary and I am honored to have the pleasure of being their coach."

"I have felt a warm welcome from the coaches and student-athletes since my arrival and the campus is absolutely beautiful," said Carey. I am proud to represent Centenary College and I look forward to continuing to coach these hard-working student-athletes and contributing to the women's gymnastics program."
