
Men's Basketball Faces Schreiner On Road This Weekend
The Centenary men’s basketball team hits the road for the first time this season as the Gents face the Schreiner Mountaineers on Friday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at 6 p.m. at the Stephens Family Arena.

The Gents (1-1) opened their season last weekend as they earned a split with Texas Lutheran at home, winning their season opener Friday night, 61-52, and then fell by a score of 68-55 on Saturday. The loss marked the first in SCAC play for the Maroon and White in almost a year as the previous conference loss for Centenary was ironically to Texas Lutheran at the Gold Dome on Jan. 12, 2020. Centenary has now won nine of its last 10 SCAC regular-season contests and 12 of their last 13 overall. The Gents are an impressive 16-6 in their last 22 SCAC games.
Schreiner will be opening its season this weekend as their games last weekend at Southwestern were cancelled. The Mountaineers and Gents played three times last season, with the Gents winning twice. Schreiner won at home, 72-65 and then the Gents returned the favor with a 66-63 win at home and then Centenary earned a 76-70 win in the semifinals of the 2020 SCAC Championship on Schreiner's home court.
Sophomore forward Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) was the Gents' statistical leader last weekend. He posted a double-double in Friday's season-opening win as he scored a game-high 18 points in 27 minutes and grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds (also a career high), nine on the defensive end. The double-double was the second of his career. He was the lone Centenary player in double figures with 15 points in Saturday's loss. He made 8 of his 10 free-throw attempts on Saturday with six rebounds and three steals. He has now reached double figures in scoring 10 times in his young career.
Junior guard AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.) and sophomore guard Drew Young (Lake Charles, La.) each played 21 minutes and each scored eight points on Saturday against TLU. Young went 4-4 from the free-throw line and grabbed a pair of rebounds and had an assist. Sophomore guard Ralph Johnson (New Iberia, La) added six points and had three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Johnson, the 2019-20 SCAC Newcomer of the Year who also earned Honorable Mention all-conference honors last season, scored 10 points in Friday's season opener, making numerous clutch shots in the second half of the game.
Junior guard Kile Mingo (Cypress, Texas) scored nine points and had six rebounds in 30 minutes of action in Friday's win while freshman forward Tre Washington (Gibson, La.) scored eight points with four rebounds in his Centenary debut. Junior guard Tykeem Singleton (Fort Worth, Texas) added six points and three rebounds in 23 minutes and sophomore forward Neil Hawkins (Titusville, Fla.) had a productive night with five rebounds, two points, three assists, and two steals in 26 minutes.
The Gents remain on the road after this weekend as Centenary travels to Dallas to face the Crusaders on Jan. 29 (8 p.m.) and Jan. 30 (4 p.m.).
