Seth Thomas Named SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week 

Lawrenceville, Ga. - Gents sophomore forward Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) has been named SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Friday, January 22 through Saturday, January 23, the league office announced on Monday. 

Thomas was once again outstanding this past weekend for the Gents in a road conference sweep of Schreiner as he was named Player of the Week for the first time in his career. The SCAC's leader in scoring posted another double-double on Saturday with 17 points and 13 rebounds in 27 minutes as Centenary recorded a 70-67 comeback win. His 13 rebounds are a new career-high, breaking his previous career mark of 12 set on Friday in a 79-75 victory. He made 5 of 16 shots from the floor, went 6-6 from the free-throw line, and dished out two assists and had a steal. Thomas scored a career-high 24 points on Friday and now has four career double-doubles and reached double digits for the 12th time in his career.

He has scored in double figures in all four of Centenary's games this season, scoring at least 15 points in every game and grabbing at least 11 rebounds in all but one game. Thomas is now averaging a league-best 18.5 points per game and is second in rebounding, averaging 10.5 per game. He is tied for third in steals, tied for fourth in free-throw percentage, and leads the SCAC in defensive rebounds. Thomas ranks 51st in the nation in points per game (18.5), 14th in rebounds per game (10.5), and is sixth in defensive rebounds per game (8.8). Thomas is also tied for second in the country in double doubles (3) and is tied for 76th in total points (74) and tied for 38th in total rebounds (42).

Thomas was a major contributor for the Gents last season as a true freshman, as he played in all 28 games, starting 13. He averaged 7.0 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game. He averaged 20.9 minutes per game and shot 36.7 % from the floor for the season, reached double digits eight times and recorded one double-double. He averaged 24.2 minutes per game, 8.9 points per game, and 5.1 rebounds per game in SCAC play. Thomas scored a season-high 18 points twice (Jan. 10 versus Southwestern and Jan. 31 versus Schreiner) and grabbed a season-best 10 rebounds on Feb. 2 against Trinity. he also ranked in the top 15 in the conference in steals and blocked shots. 

The Gents (3-1) followed up Friday night's 79-75 win with an 11th win in their last 12 conference games. Centenary is a stellar 13-1 in its last 14 SCAC games dating back to Jan. 25, 2020. The Maroon and White defeated Schreiner for the fourth-straight time with Saturday's win. The Gents defeated Schreiner at home in the regular season last season, in the semifinals of the 2020 SCAC Championship last March, and swept both games this past weekend.

The Gents remain on the road this weekend as they travel to Dallas to face the Crusaders on Jan. 29 (8 p.m.) and Jan. 30 (4 p.m.).
