Ladies Golf Second, Gents Third, in Season Opening Louisiana College Fall Invite

ALEXANDRIA, La. - Junior Ladies golfer Jessica Varner begins fall 2017 right where she left off in the spring - atop the leaderboard - while Gents sophomore Reed Balcerowicz sits in a tie for second to lead Centenary golf after round one in the Louisiana College Fall Invite at the Links on the Bayou Golf Course in Alexandria, Louisiana.

The Ladies sit second overall with a total of 358 (+70) on the day, 11 shots behind LeTourneau. Rounding out the field is Howard Payne (+107) and Hendrix College (+214). The Gents rank third of five teams with a round of 313 (+25), eight strokes behind LeTourneau and one stroke behind Belhaven. Howard Payne is fourth (+28) and host Louisiana College (+42) rounds out the field.

Varner, who won Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference medalist honors in her last tournament, fired a 74 (+2) and is nine strokes clear of the rest of the women's field. Also in the top-10 for the Ladies is junior Taylor Adair (88, +16) in a tie for seventh and senior Toni Ficarra (95, +23) ninth. Sophomore Erin Rostro fired a 101 (+29) and sits 11th, two strokes from the top 10.

For the Gents, Balcerowicz sits in a three-way tie for second after shooting a 73 (+1), one stroke behind the leader. Sophomore Brodey Warner is in a tie for ninth after shooting a 77 (+5), while classmate Donald Frazier shot an 81 (+9) and is tied for 18th. Freshman Austin Craig carded an 82 (+10) in his first collegiate round and is in a tie for 21st, while sophomore Taylor Wells recorded an 84 (+12).

Competing as an individual is freshman Harrison John, who is tied with Frazier in 18th.

Centenary finishes off its first tournament of the season Tuesday, September 19.
