Ladies Finish Third, Gents Fourth at Hal Sutton Invite

BOSSIER CITY, La. - The Ladies golf team placed third of five teams, while the Gents finished fourth of eight teams at the annual Hal Sutton Invite at the Par-72, golf Club at Stonebridge March 19-20.

The Ladies finished the two-round tournament with a 718 total (+142) to finish 20 strokes ahead of Seminole State and 104 better than Jacksonville Community College. On the men's side, the Gents finished fourth with a 670 (+94) total, seven strokes ahead of Belhaven, 10 ahead of Williams Baptist, and 24 better than Louisiana College. Cal Lutheran won both titles while Tyler Junior College took runner-up honors in both tournaments.

Junior Jessica Varner finished tied for fourth, shooting rounds of 82 both days to finish +20. She also recorded the lone eagle on either side, tallying a three on the par-5 16th on day one.

Classmate Taylor Adair fired an 86 in the first round and an 82 for the second round to finish eighth (+24). Sophomore Erin Rostro placed 16th (93-94, +187). Senior Toni Ficarra placed 19th (95-104, +55) and junior Shannon Orlopp took 21st (103-111, +214).

Freshman Aerial Reeves, competing as an individual, came in 22nd (113-104, +217).

In the men's side, two Centenary teams competed. While the second Gents team took eighth with a 722 (+146), sophomore Taylor Wells carded rounds of 81 and 85 (+22) to finish 19th - the highest Gents placer in the men's tournament. Sophomore Reed Balcerowicz (81-87) and junior Edvard Granrud (83-85), finished just two strokes back to finish tied for 20th. Freshmen Harrison John (88-81, +25) and Austin Craig (85-86, +27) finished 22nd and 26th, respectively. Sophomore Brodey Warner shot rounds of 82 and 92 to finish tied for 29th with a +30 total.

Rounding out the competitors for the Gents, sophomore Donald Frazier finished 36th (85-96, +37), junior Trey Llorence 40th (93-93, +186), and sophomore Gabe Rodriguez 41st (92-97, 189).

The Gents golf team returns to action April 16-17 for Park University's Spring Classic in Kansas City, Missouri.
