Gents Lose Offensive Shootout With Huntingdon College, 15-14

Shreveport – The Centenary lacrosse team suffered a disappointing 15-14 loss to the Huntingdon College Hawks on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Mayo Field.

The Gents (0-2) led 11-7 with 11:42 remaining but could not fend off the Hawks (1-1). The Gents scored 10 goals in their season opener at home on Feb. 5 against Cornell College (16-10 loss) and turned in another impressive offensive effort on Sunday. Huntingdon rebounded from a 14-11 loss at Dallas in its season opener on Saturday. The Gents and Hawks met last season in Montgomery, Ala. as Huntingdon recorded a 21-7 victory, so Centenary's improvement was evident on Sunday.

Sophomore midfielder Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) led the Gents as he tied his career single-game record of five goals previously set at Dallas last season in an 18-8 Centenary win. Cook recorded the fourth multi-goal performance of his young career as he took a team-high 11 shots (10 on goal), had three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Ian Bruggerman matched Cook with five goals to lead the Hawks and added a pair of assists and two ground balls. Bruggerman took a team-high 12 shots with nine on goal.

Fellow freshman A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) scored two goals and had a team-high three assists. Parchman scored a pair of goals for the second-straight game. He added a pair of ground balls and took nine shots with six coming on goal. Freshman A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas), junior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas), junior M Dario Garcia (Dallas, Texas), and junior A John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) each scored one goal. Freshman GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) played all 60 minutes and recorded 16 saves. Huntingdon GK Jesse "Blake" Thomas went the distance as well and recorded 20 saves.

The aggressive Gents finished with a 55-41 edge in shots which included a combined 30-16 advantage in the first and third quarters. Centenary won nine face-off opportunities (9-32) and only committed 14 turnovers to the Hawks' 21. Huntingdon was 23-32 in face-off opportunities and the Hawks wound up with 35 ground balls while the Gents finished with 28. Ryan Campion and Paul Gordon each scored four goals for the Hawks and Kole Andres scored two.

The Gents will continue their season-long four-game homestand on Tuesday as they face the Hendrix College Warriors on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
