Gents Fall 27-11 To Kalamazoo College On Tuesday

Irving, Texas– The Centenary lacrosse team fell 27-11 to the Kalamazoo College Hornets on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference, neutral-site contest at the University of Dallas.

The Gents (0-6) were back on the field for the first time in nearly a month, having last played on Feb. 26 when they fell 13-2 at Hanover College. The Hornets (3-4) rebounded from a 17-9 loss at Aurora last weekend. Centenary and Kalamazoo were meeting for the first time on Tuesday.

Centenary fell behind 14-0 at the half but caught fire in the second half, scoring 11 goals. Kalamazoo scored 10 goals in the fourth quarter but the Gents held them to three in the third period. The Gents finished with a 54-45 edge in ground balls and the Hornets took 49 shots to the Gents' 36. Centenary went 21-41 on face off opportunities while Kalamazoo went 20-41.

Freshman A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) led the Gents with a single-game season-high four goals and recorded his second multi-goal performance of the season after scoring two in his collegiate debut on Feb. 5 versus Cornell College. Seven Gents scored on goal each and junior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) had a game-high two assists.

Sophomore midfielder Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) and junior D Chris Dant (Bossier City, La.) each had a game-high six ground balls. Spivey, junior D Ethan Little (Tyler, Texas), and freshman D Barrett Stewart (Boerne, Texas) each had five ground balls. Junior MF Blake Federico (Boerne, Texas) and Comi each had four GB's. Dant scored his first-career goal in the fourth quarter.

Centenary freshman GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) started and played 15 minutes as he allowed nine goals and made three saves. Fellow rookie Jason Turner (Bossier City, La.) relieved him and played the final 45 minutes. He allowed 18 goals and made eight saves. Nicks-Davis, freshman A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.), sophomore D Matthew Lulich (New Orleans, La.), and sophomore LSM Jackson Ossman (Shreveport, La.) each had three ground balls.

Spivey led the Gents with eight shots, Parchman took six shots, Cook had two caused turnovers, took six shots, and had an assist. Junior A John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) took four shots, scored a goal, and had one ground ball. Junior MF Dario Garcia (Dallas, Texas) took five shots, had two ground balls, and scored one goal. Freshman MF Marc Mackey (Houston, Texas) took three shots and scored one goal.  

Sam Hoag and Jack Loveland each scored four goals to lead the Hornets and Mike Hume and Vincent Tran each scored three. Ten other Hornets scored at least a goal and ten had at least one assist as four recorded multi-assist efforts.

Centenary remains on the road this weekend to face Anderson University on Friday at 6 p.m. in Anderson, Ind.
