Gents Post 16-12 Road Win At Huntingdon College On Wednesday

Montgomery, Ala. – The Centenary lacrosse team scored a season-high 16 goals and won for the third time in its last four games as the Gents recorded a 16-12 win over the Huntingdon College Hawks in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening at Charles Lee Field at Samford Stadium.

The Gents (3-7) got revenge for a 15-14 loss to the Hawks (4-10) back on Feb. 13 at home. Huntingdon dropped its fourth-game in a row and fell to 2-7 at home this season. The Gents improved their road record to 3-1.

Centenary was down 7-2 after the first quarter but the Maroon and White found their offensive in the second period, scoring seven goals themselves and holding the Hawks to just two to take a 9-8 lead at halftime. Each team scored three goals in the third period to make it 12-11 Centenary entering the final 15 minutes of play. The Gents then outscored the Hawks 4-1 in the fourth to secure the win.

Sophomore M/A Jordan Cook (Bryant, Ark.) scored a game-high five goals to pace the Centenary offense, marking his third five-goal performance of the season and his fifth multi-goal effort. Cook has a team-best 24 goals this season and scored five goals in both games against the Hawks this season. He took 14 shots on Wednesday, seven on goal, and added three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Junior A John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) scored three goals and added an assist and a ground ball. Waniewski now has 14 goals this season and three multi-goal performances. A trio of freshmen - Braxton Parchman (Shreveport), Marc Mackey (Houston, Texas), and G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) each scored two goals and combined for four assists, with Mackey recording two. Spivey now has five multi-goal games this season and Mackey and Parchman each have three. Senior MF Dario Garcia (Dallas, Texas) and junior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) each scored a goal.

Freshman GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) started and made 12 saves in his 60 minutes. The Hawks played a pair of goalies as Jesse "Blake" Thomas played 39:55 and allowed 10 goal and made 11 saves. Tyler Daigle played 20:05 and allowed six goals with four saves.

The Hawks finished with a slight (23-20) edge in ground balls, and each team turned the ball over 20 times. Centenary took 47 shots while Huntingdon took 42. The Gents finished 24-29 on clears and the Hawks went 16-21. Huntingdon won 18-30 face-offs while Centenary was 12-30. Paul Gordon scored five goals and Ian Bruggeman scored four to lead the Hawks' offense.

The Gents will wrap up their regular season with another non-conference contest versus Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC on Friday at 5 p.m. 4 central).
