Roberts Finishes 17th At Pinecrest Invitational

Longview, Texas – Junior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) earned a runner-up finish in the Pinecrest Invitational, as he finished one shot shy of his first-career individual title to highlight the event for the Centenary men's and women's golf teams as play concluded on Tuesday at the Pinecrest Country Club.

Bennett shot a final round 2-under par 70 to finish at 1-under par 212 for the week and one shot behind individual champion Bryson Thurston of host LeTourneau University (2-under par 211). Bennett shot even-par 72 in round one and a 2-under 70 in round two. Thurston shot a first-round 3-over 75 and then fired consecutive 68's to edge Bennett for the win. Bennett now has one runner-up, a top five, and four top-10 finishes in his career.

The host Yellowjackets won the team title (23-over par 875) by eight shots over runner-up Texas Wesleyan (31-over par 883). The Gents finished ninth at 105-over par 963 (314-323-320). Juan Ricardo Davila Bone and Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner University tied for third on the men's side at 4-over par 217 and Kaiden Schneider of LeTourneau finished fifth (5-over par 218).

Freshman Kaylee Roberts (Watonga, Okla.) played as an individual as she was the lone member of the women's golf team to compete this week and finished 17th overall at 74-over par 218. Concordia (TX) won the women's title by 34 strokes over LeTourneau. Concordia teammates Sophia Padilla and Tiana Shobe tied for the individual title (19-over par 163) and went into a playoff as Shobe won on the second playoff hole.

Freshman Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) earned the Gents second-best finish at 34th place after shooting 74-80-82 – 236 (+23) for the week. Senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished in a tie for 60th place (83-86-82 – 251 (+38), junior Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) finished 64th (85-87-86 – 258 (+45), sophomore Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 66th (85-91-90 – 266 (+53), and freshman Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas) was right behind him in 67th place (90-90-92 – 272 (+59).

Next up for Centenary is its' annual home tournament - the Hal Sutton Invitational set for March 20-21 at The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City.
