Bowling Green, Ohio– Twelve current and former Centenary gymnasts were named Scholastic All-America Award winners by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
The following Ladies were named to the prestigious team: junior Rose Deshler (Hastings, Minn.), junior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas), senior Kendall Knaps (Prairieville, La.) junior Madison McCary (Ozark, Mo.), sophomore Izabel Plaza (San Antonio, Texas), junior Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas), junior Kennedy Stephens (Bella Vista, Ark.), junior Taylor Ann Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.), and former team member Courtney Tripp. Three recent graduating seniors also made the team - Jerrica Harris (Memphis, Tenn.), Jenny Jackson (Monticello, Fla.), and Sierra Ponder (Stone Mountain, Ga.). All twelve Ladies were also named a MIC Scholar-Athlete this past season and nine Ladies had a perfect 4.0 GPA.
"Congratulations to the student-athletes, coaches, and support staff on a record-breaking year of academic success," Kerrie Turner, WCGA president and head coach at Bowling Green, said. "The balance needed to be a successful student and athlete takes considerable planning and intentional effort, which was certainly heightened during pandemic conditions. I am thrilled to see women's gymnastics achieving incredibly high standards in the classroom during this challenging time."
Overall, there were 58 teams with a team GPA of 3.5 or more on a 4.0 scale, up from 53 teams last year. There were 223 (15.41%) student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA, and a record number – 1,059 (73.19%) – of gymnasts with a 3.5 or better GPA. Last year there were 889 (65.56%) Scholastic All-America team members. This is the first time we have had more than 1,000 honorees. Northern Illinois, Boise State and Springfield posted the top three team grade-point averages (GPAs) for the 2020-21 academic year based on data submitted to the WCGA.
The WCGA is the advocate for women's collegiate gymnastics.
