Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Nov. 22 Edition

Hello Ladies fans! Junior Kendall Huff here with the week's gym talk.

The end of the semester is approaching fast, and we are all very busy! We have been working hard on our classes and in the gym.

This past week was very busy as it was Centenary's Homecoming! The school had many events to celebrate. Food trucks and circus type activities were Monday; chalk the walk was Tuesday; and window painting and brinner (yum!) was Wednesday. On Thursday, there was a Veteran's Day tribute at the shell and then a fun tailgate (with lots of free things, including a bucket hat!) before the basketball game. Friday was the gumbo and cookie cookoff, which was delicious! And last but not least, Saturday we had a pep rally where all of the sports teams were announced as well as homecoming King and Queen! We had a great time the whole week!

On Saturday, we had a team intrasquad! The intrasquad is a homecoming tradition that we missed last year due to COVID and we were so excited to have this year. Alumni, parents, and friends joined us at Jill's, and we were so happy to have their support! As a team, we did great!

The vault shakers really nailed their assignment! We had FOUR twisting vaults, plus a 9.9 front pike and a 9.8 lay-out Tsuk. On bars, we were excited to see all our routines starting to come together. Everyone rocked beam! Shout out to Kendall Sanders and Xian Baumgartner for nailing their new series. And floor was also fantastic! It was so much fun watching the debut of a few new floor routines to the public. I would also like to give a shoutout to all our teammates who are injured or coming back from an injury for being there for every single one of us and pushing us to be our best! They work so hard behind the scenes, and we wouldn't be a complete family without them. Shoutout to Kendall Knaps for her full-out dismount on the pit bar! We are definitely gearing up for season and can't wait for it to get here!

Sunday was picture day! We went to the Calanthean Temple, an old historic building in downtown Shreveport that was built in the 1920's. The pictures were so fun to take, and the final products have not disappointed, they are amazing. There were so many cool backdrops for us to use. A huge shout-out to the Calanthean Temple for letting us use their building for the day!

A huge thank you to alumni parents, Penny Sander and Shawn Smith, and their families, who come every year to take these pictures for us. They also take pictures at many of our competitions (even though their own daughters have graduated) and we are always so happy and excited to see them. We really can't thank them enough!

In case you missed the news this week, our new head coach Brittany Harris surprised us and showed up for picture day! It was a great first day on the job for Brittany getting to know us as she spent the day chasing us around a 4-story building and helping make our pictures so amazing!  She's been in the gym all this week and we have all been getting to know each other better. We are thrilled to have Brittany on our staff, and we know she is going to help us achieve great things.

Before we know it, our first competition will be here, and we can't wait. We are looking forward to having more meets this season and being able to travel greater distances, both literally and figuratively. Who is planning on Nationals in Ithaca, New York? We are! Cannot wait to see everyone in the stands!

XOXO
