Brownwood, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team defeated Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Schreiner, 5-1, on Sunday in the final round of the Battle of Camp Bowie to finish in fifth place in match play competition at Brownwood Country Club, hosted by Howard Payne University.

The Gents beat Howard Payne on Saturday as it was the first action of the spring for the Maroon and White since a fifth-place finish at the Tempest Intercollegiate in Gladewater, Texas last October. The tournament began on Friday with 36 holes of stroke play before giving way to 18 holes of match play on Saturday and Sunday.

Centenary's lineup this weekend consisted of freshman Richard Polan, senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas), senior Reed Balcerowicz (Crosby, Texas), senior Taylor Wells (Shreveport), junior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.), and senior Gabe Rodriguez (Bossier City. La.). All six Gents competed in stroke play with the top four scores counting in round one and then all six competed in match play during the weekend.

Balcerowicz and Warner carded the lowest rounds for the Gents in Friday's first round with 2-over 74's. Polan shot a 75, John an 82, Wells an 83, and Rodriguez shot an 86 as Centenary posted a 305 round one total. Balcerowicz fired an impressive 2-under 70 in round two and Rodriguez improved his score by 14 strokes to post an even-par 72. John shot a 74, Warner a 75, and Polan a 76 as the Gents posted a team total of 291 for a 596 total to tie for seventh place with Schreiner.

Next up for the Gents is the Pinecrest Intercollegiate at Pinecrest Country Club in Longview, Texas hosted by LeTourneau University on March 2-3.

Centenary will host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational at The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City March 22-24.
