Kingwood, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team finished ninth at the NCAA division III Lidlifter hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas as the Gents shot a 57-over par 633 at the par 72, 6,727-yard Clubs of Kingwood Forest.
Centenary shot a 29-over par 317 on Tuesday after opening the tournament with a 28-over par 316 on Monday. LeTourneau University claimed the team title, rallying from a 12-stroke deficit entering the day after shooting a 25-over par 601 on Monday. LeTourneau finished two shots ahead of the host Comets (27-over par 603). Hardin-Simmons University finished third (39-over par 615), The Comets' "B" team placed fourth at 40-over par 615, and Mary Hardin-Baylor jumped up five spots after round one to place fifth at 47-over par 623.
Junior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) was the Gents' top finisher as he shot a 6-over par 150 to tie for ninth place. Bennett shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday after a 6-over 78 on Monday. Bennett now has three top 10-finishes in his career. LeTourneau's Kaiden Schneider and Andrew Chow of UT-Dallas shared medalist honors as the top individual at 1-over par 145.
Junior Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) was the Gents' second-best finisher as he tied for 34th place at 14-over par 158. Freshman Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) tied for 39th place (16-over par 160), senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished in a tie for 52ns place at 22-over par 166, and sophomore Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 62nd after shooting a 29-over par 173.
East Texas Baptist University and Millsaps finished in a tie for sixth place at 48-over par 624, and St. Thomas finished in eighth place, two strokes ahead of the Gents at 55-over par 631. Howard Payne finished 10th at 61-over par 637. Mary Hardin-Baylor placed 11th at 63-over 639.
Next up for the Gents is the Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University on March 13-14 in Longview, Texas.
