Gents Seventh After Day One At SCAC Championships

Kerrville, Texas - The Centenary men's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds as day one is in the books at the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday at Riverhill Country Club.

The Gents shot a 74-over par 650 on Monday – a 32-over 320 in round one followed by a 42-over par 330 in round two. The University of St. Thomas is the leader heading into Tuesday's final round after shooting a 14-over par 590 (291-299) and is one shot ahead of Trinity University.

Schreiner is in third place at 16-over 592, Southwestern University (+33 – 609) is fourth, Dallas (+43 – 619) is fifth, and Texas Lutheran is sixth at 46-over 622. Trinity's Daniel Nunez is the individual leader after Monday's two rounds as he fired a 4-under par 140 and is the only player under par. He started the day with an impressive 8-under 64 in round one and followed it with a 4-over 76. Schreiner's Zhao Yung Gu is second at 1-over par 145, five shots behind Nunez.

Junior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) leads the Gents after Monday's action as he is tied for 13th place at 8-over par 152. He shot a 5-over par 77 in round one and a 3-over 75 in round two. He is tied with Trey Schneider of Dallas and is only three shots from being in the top 10. Bennett earned a 19th-place finish in last season's event.

Freshman Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) is tied for 21st after shooting a 12-over par 156. He shot a 4-over par 76 in round one and an 8-over par 80 in the second round. Senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) shot rounds of 79-93 (172) and is 28-over par and tied for 35th place. Sophomore Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) shot a 32-over 176 (88-88) and is 40th. Junior Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) is 33-over par and in 41st place (90-87 – 177), and freshman Hahn Bridges (Sterlington, La.) shot a 38-over 182 (88-94) and is in 42nd place.

The Gents will tee off on the back nine, on hole #10, beginning with Bridges at 8:45 a.m. and finishing with Bennett at 9:35 a.m.
