Georgetown, Texas - The Centenary men's golf team shot a 102-over par 966 to finish eighth in the West Region Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,567-yard Berry Creek Country Club.
The Gents shot a 31-over par 319 in Tuesday's final round after shooting a 40-over par 328 in Monday's first round and a 319 in the second round. Trinity University won the team title after shooting a 13-over par 877 to finish eight shots ahead of host and runner-up Southwestern University. Travis Skorheim of Concordia (TX) won the individual title after firing an 8-under par 208 to edge Trinity's Jacob Mason by one shot.
Junior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) was the top finisher for the Gents as he tied for 26th place after shooting a 21-over par 237 which included a final round 7-over 79 on Tuesday. Bennett also shot identical rounds of 79 on Monday in the first and second rounds. Freshman Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) tied for 32nd place at 23-over par 239 after shooting rounds of 85-78-76. His 4-over 76 was the Gents' lowest round on Tuesday.
Junior Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) finished 40th after shooting a 32-over par 248 (81-79-88), freshman Hahn Bridges (Sterlington, La.) finished 41st at 34-over par 250 (83-83-84), and senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished 42nd at 35-over par 251 (86-85-80).
Concordia finished third (+30 – 894), the University of Dallas finished fourth (+47 – 911), Howard Payne placed fifth (+48 – 912), McMurry University finished sixth at 89-over par 953, Southwestern's "B" team finished seventh (+92 – 956), and the University of Northwestern – St. Paul finished ninth at 128-over 992.
The Gents will return to action on April 17-18 in the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, Texas.
