Ladies Fall 8-1 on Sunday to St. Thomas at Home

Shreveport - The Centenary Ladies softball team dropped an 8-1 decision to the St. Thomas Celts on Sunday in the third and final game a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (9-11, 2-3 SCAC) were swept in the series after falling a doubleheader on Saturday, 8-3 in 10 innings in game one and 6-4 in game two. The Celts (10-7, 5-1 SCAC) collected 17 hits on Sunday while holding the Ladies to just one.

Freshman Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) suffered the loss to fall to 4-6 on the season as she allowed four runs, all earned, and six hits in three innings of work. She walked one and struck out one. Junior Kirstyn Gomez (Deer Park, Texas) relieved her and allowed three earned runs and seven hits in 2.1 innings.

Fellow junior Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) became Centenary's third pitcher of the day as she followed Gomez and gave up one earned run on three hits in 1.1 innings with a walk and two K's. Freshman Cambry Bates (Readhimer, La.) came on to get the final out of the seventh inning. Celts' starter Lindsey Longuet picked up the win as she went the distance and allowed just one earned run on one hit with two walks and five strikeouts. Five St. Thomas players had multi-hit games led by a four-hit, five RBI effort from catcher Brenna Ruether.

The Ladies will take a brief break from conference play as they face the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in Marshall, Texas on Tuesday in a doubleheader set for 5 and 7 p.m.

Centenary then returns to SCAC play next weekend as the Ladies face Dallas on the road for a DH on Saturday, March 27 at Noon and 2 p.m. and then a single game on Sunday the 28th at Noon.
