Softball Faces Schreiner on Road In Final Series of Regular Season

Kerrville, Texas - The Centenary softball team will finish its regular season this weekend with a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series against the Schreiner Mountaineers beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. at Mountaineer Softball Field.

The Ladies (15-16, 8-8 SCAC) look to get back in the win column after dropping a doubleheader at home last Saturday to the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, 9-3 and 9-4, their final two home games of the regular season. Schreiner enters Saturday's play 17-20 overall and 11-7 in conference action. The Mountaineers have won two in a row and are 11-6 at home this season.

Schreiner is currently in third place in the conference standings while Centenary is fourth and both teams have secured spots in the 2021 SCAC Championship which will be played in Kerrville April 30-May 2 with Schreiner serving as the host.

The Ladies enter the weekend ranked third in the league in team pitching with a solid ERA of 3.08, are second in the conference with a fielding percentage of .953, and lead the way in both strikeouts (136) and saves (5).

Centenary freshman pitcher Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) is having a great rookie season as she ranks second in the SCAC with a stellar 1.98 ERA, leads the way with four saves, and is second in strikeouts with 81. She has only walked 14 batters all season in a team-high 102.1 innings pitched. Leger is 7-9 overall with seven complete games. Junior P Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) is 5-4 with a 3.72 ERA and has a pair of complete games and a save. Freshman Cambry Bates (Readhimer, La.) is 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 10 appearances.

Ladies' freshman right fielder Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) is having a superb rookie season as she is leading the team in batting with a .337 average which ranks in the top 15 in the conference. She has a team-best 31 hits, 17 runs scored, 11 walks, and four extra-base hits. She has also stolen 15 bases (second on the team and fourth in the conference) and only been caught once.

The versatile Bates has also made an impact at the plate as well as in the circle. She is second on the team with a .312 batting average and third with 24 hits. She is tied for the team lead in homers (3) and second on the team in doubles with four. Sophomore 2B Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) is third on the team with a .302 average, a team high 13 RBI, and her 26 hits are second on the team. She leads the team and ranks third in the league with 17 stolen bases and has five extra-base hits.

Senior C Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) is tied with Bates for the lead in home runs with three and has 19 hits, 11 RBI, and three doubles. Sophomore third baseman Britlyn Garrett (Stonewall. La.) is having a solid season as she has 20 hits, seven RBI, 11 stolen bases, and is tied with Bates for the team lead in extra-base hits (7) as she has three doubles, two triples, and a pair of homers.

Centenary stole a season-high seven bases in game two of their DH last weekend versus Texas Lutheran, one shy of the single-game record in the division III era (2012-present). The Ladies have now stolen an impressive 66 bases this season which is the fifth-most in a single season in the D3 era. The Ladies rank second in the SCAC in stolen bases and rank in the top 15 in the country in division III in the category.
