Softball Registers Convincing DH Sweep of Dallas on Saturday

Irving, Texas- The Centenary softball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader over the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday in convincing fashion, winning 8-0 in five innings in game one and then 7-2 in game two at the UD Softball facility.

The Ladies (11-11, 4-3 SCAC) rebounded nicely after being swept at home last weekend in a three-game conference series by St. Thomas. Game three is set for noon on Sunday as the Ladies go for the series sweep. Dallas fell to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the SCAC with Saturday's losses. Centenary has now won four of its last five games against Dallas as the Ladies took two of three from the Crusaders at home last season.

Game one recap:

Centenary took immediate control of game one as the Ladies scored six runs in the top of the first inning highlighted by a three-run home run by freshman Cambry Bates (Readhimer, La.), her second homer of the season. Her first-career long ball, also a three-run shot, was a go-ahead homer on March 13 against Hardin Simmons which propelled the Ladies to a comeback win in game two of a doubleheader.

Senior left fielder Brittney Broussard (Rayne, La.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run and make it 4-0 and freshman right fielder Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) singled in a pair of runs to make it 6-0 and cap the big inning.

Freshman Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) started in the circle and picked up the win to improve to 5-6 on the season as she went five innings and allowed no runs and just one hit with a walk and five strikeouts.

Senior Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) had an RBI single in the top of the third to make it 7-0 and then belted a solo homer in the top of the fifth to make it 8-0.

Devinne Green suffered the loss for the Crusaders as she allowed six runs, all earned, and two hits in two third of an inning with two walks and no K's. Karina Campo relieved her and went the final 4.1 innings and allowed two runs, both earned, and six hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Centenary collected eight hits led by three from Lewis. She and Cox each had two RBI and Bates had the big three in the first inning. Sophomore third baseman Britlyn Garrett (Stonewall. La.) had one hit, a double, and junior SS Jaymee Wilkinson (Brazoria, Texas) and sophomore center fielder Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) had a hit and a run scored. Cox had another solid game as she had the two-run single in the first, a run scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

Game two recap:

The Ladies' offense picked up right where they left off in game one as they scored two runs in their first at-bat in game two.

Sophomore Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) had an RBI single and she then later stole home on a double steal for a 2-0 lead. Patridge then utlilized her speed as she hit an inside the park home run in the third to extend the Centenary lead to 3-0, her first-career home run. Garrett tripled in Bates later in the inning to make it 4-0.

Dallas got a single run in the bottom of the third and then Patridge continued her spectacular game with an RBI single in the fourth to make it 6-1. Dallas scored a single run in the bottom half of the inning but then Bates hit her second home run of the day in the sixth to make it 7-2. Bates finished the day 3-6 with two homers, three runs scored, a walk, and four RBI. Patridge was 3-4 in game two with her HR and two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Leger started game two and went 2.2 innings, allowing one unearned run and two hits with three K's. Junior Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) relieved her and picked up the win to improve to 4-2. She allowed one run on four hits with one walk and two K's. Bates pitched the final 1.2 innings and put up all zeros. Emily Martin went the distance for the Crusaders and took the loss to fall to 1-1 as she allowed seven runs, six earned, and 10 hits with four walks and two K's.

Lewis picked up two more hits in game two while Garrett had a hit, an RBI, and a walk. Wilkinson had two walks and a run scored. The Ladies stole six bases in game two led by two from Patridge, and swiped seven on the day along with six extra-base hits highlighted by four home runs. Centenary drew six walks in the two games and only struck out four times while collecting 18 hits. Centenary pitching held the Crusaders to just two runs and seven hits, allowed just two walks, and recorded 10 K's.
