Softball Finishes off Weekend Sweep of Dallas with 4-1 Win on Sunday

Irving, Texas- The Centenary softball team defeated the University of Dallas Crusaders on Sunday, 4-1, to complete three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep at the UD Softball facility.

The Ladies (12-11, 5-3 SCAC) swept a doubleheader on Saturday, winning 8-0 in five innings in game one and then 7-2 in game two and have now won five of their last six games against Dallas. Centenary recorded its first series sweep in conference play since sweeping the Crusaders on the road in the 2019 season. Dallas falls to 2-8 and 2-7 in SCAC play with Sunday's loss.

Centenary collected 13 hits on Sunday and finished with an impressive 31 in the three-game series. Senior catcher Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) put an exclamation point on a superb weekend as she went 3-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Lewis was a sensational 8-9 at the plate for the series with five RBI, a pair of doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Freshman Cambry Bates (Readhimer, La.) continued her productive weekend at the plate on Sunday as she went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.

Junior Kirstyn Gomez (Deer Park, Texas) started and went four innings to pick up the win and move to 2-2 on the season, allowing just one earned run and four hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Junior Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) came on in relief of Gomez and pitched two innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) pitched the seventh and picked up her team-high fourth save of the season as she struck out one. Leger now leads the conference and the country in saves.

Maggie Watts (1-5) took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing four earned runs and 13 hits in her seven innings of work. She did not walk a batter and struck out two. The Crusaders scored first with a single run in the bottom of the first but then the Ladies responded with a pair of runs in the second as Lewis doubled in Bates and Garrett for a 2-1 lead. Lewis' RBI single in the fourth made it 3-1 Ladies and then Stout added an RBI single for the final margin.

The Ladies will return home to face Southwestern in a three-game SCAC series next weekend with a doubleheader on Friday, April 2 scheduled for Noon and 2 p.m. and a single game on Saturday, April 3 at Noon.
