Ladies 7th at Abilene Intercollegiate, Varner Takes Runner-Up Honors

ABILENE, Texas - Junior Jessica Varner, the third-ranked golfer in the country, fired rounds of 74 and 73 (+5) to help Centenary finish seventh on the par-71 Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene, Texas, Monday and Tuesday, October 23-24.

The Ladies shot a 675 (+107) for the two rounds, improving by 23 strokes from round one to round two. Centenary finished 51 strokes ahead of McMurry and 70 shots better than Howard Payne. Southwestern won the tournament with a 613 (+45) total.

Varner again led the field with six birdies, and easily surpassed the field in par-5 scoring by three strokes (4.33 average, -4). She finished only +1 for the two rounds on par-3's to also lead the field. She has now finished in the top-10 in 16-of-19 collegiate tournaments.

Junior Taylor Adair (163, +21) improved nine strokes in round two and jumped nine spots to finish tied for 21st and carded a pair of birdies for the tournament - matching her best two round total of her collegiate career. Sophomore Erin Rostro carded a 178 (+36), shooting eight strokes better in round two and improving one place to 38th. She birdied the par-3 third in round two, one of only three people to shoot under par on that hole for the tournament.

Rounding out the field for the Ladies, senior Courtney Kale finished 44th with a career-best total of 198 (+56), while senior Toni Ficarra finished 45th with a 202 (+60), but improved by 20 strokes from the first round.
