LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior Ladies Golfer Jessica Varner was tabbed Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the seventh time in her career Wednesday, February 28.
Varner took the title at the Linda Lowery Invitational by shooting 77 in both rounds (+14) to win by two strokes. In second place after the first round, Varner started her second round +6 on the front nine, but made eight pars and one bogey on the back to rally for the win. Her 77 (+7) was the best score on the final day as Varner was only one of two-golfers to be less than 10-over par for the round.
She easily bested the field in pars (21) and par-4 scoring (4.45, + 9), completing the two-day competition at 154 (+14).
The tournament was Varner's fifth win and 14th top-5 finish of her collegiate career.
As a team, the Ladies finished fourth of eight teams.
The Ladies Golf team returns to action Saturday afternoon in a dual match with Hendrix in Little Rock, Arkansas.
