Ladies Soccer Blanks Austin College, 1-0, Remains Unbeaten on Season

Shreveport – The Centenary women's soccer team remained undefeated on the season with a 1-0 shutout over the Austin College 'Roos on Saturday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on a cool, windy evening at Mayo Field.

The Ladies (5-0, 2-0 SCAC) posted their fourth-straight shutout and have allowed just a single goal all season as they have outscored the opposition, 13-1. The record for shutouts in a single season in the division III (2011-present) era is seven and the Ladies have already tied the fourth-place record through five games and are just one shutout away from the second-place record of five set in 2017 and last season.

Centenary has won 21 of its last 24 matches dating back to the beginning of last season and are 11-1 in its last 12 home matches as the Maroon and White are a perfect 3-0 this season after going a superb 8-1 last season at Mayo Field. The 'Roos fell to 0-2 on the season after falling in their season opener to Trinity at home last weekend. The Ladies, who swept a pair of matches over the 'Roos last season, have not lost to Austin College since the 2015 season.

Senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) recorded her fourth shutout of the season and the 10th of her career which sets a new division III program era record for shutouts in a career. Pitcher, the reigning SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, had three saves on Saturday night and now has 19 saves for the season. Pitcher has an impressive .950 save percentage for the season and entered the game leading the conference in saves.

Junior Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) scored Centenary's goal on Saturday night with a beautiful strike from 35 yards out past the box into the back of the net in the 28th minute of the first half. The goal was McDonald's second of the season and fourth of her career.

The Ladies dominated the 'Roos statistically, with a 34-5 advantage in shots and a 12-3 edge in shots on goal. Centenary also took 10 corner kicks to just one for Austin College. Austin College used two goalkeepers as Maya Erwin played the first half and took the loss and was replaced with Meredith Harris for the second half.

The Ladies will take a quick break from conference play next week as they play host to Mississippi University for Women on Tuesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. in what is a rematch of a 4-0 Centenary victory over the Owls on Feb. 22 in Columbus, Miss.

The Ladies then return to SCAC play next weekend as they square off with the University of Dallas (March 13) at 3:30 p.m. and then face Schreiner (March 20) at 2 p.m. in consecutive weeks at home.
