Ladies Welcome McMurry To Town For Home Opener

Shreveport – The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams return home this weekend to host their first home meet in nearly two years as the Maroon and White face the McMurry University War Hawks in their home opener at 11:30 a.m. at the FIT.

Centenary opened its 2021-22 season last weekend in a double dual meet versus fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference members, Southwestern University and Colorado College in Georgetown, Texas and turned in an impressive overall performance as the men and women combined to record 13 top-five individual finishes and six team top-five finishes during the weekend. McMurry opened its season with a split against Austin College on Oct. 16 in Sherman, Texas.

Freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) had a sensational start to her Ladies' career in her collegiate debut as she earned a runner-up finish in the 200 free on Friday, swimming a time of 2:03.85 and also placed second in the 500 free in a time of 5:28.92. She was also a part of the Ladies' 400 medley relay team that placed fourth with a time of 4:26.96.

Vacula continued her impressive debut on Saturday as she earned another runner-up finish in the 1000 free (11:15.10), placed fifth in the 400 IM (5:07.39) and was a member of the 200 free relay team that placed fourth, swimming a time of 1:51.61.

Senior Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) got off to a strong start as she won the 200 back with a time of 2:13.88, earned runner-up finishes in the 100 fly (1:01.45) and 100 back (1:02.79), placed third in the 200 fly (2:22.15), and was part of Ladies' teams that finished fourth in both the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Senior Madelyn Frederick (Slidell, La.) had an impressive meet as she earned a top-five finish in the 100 breast (1:18.17), a pair of seventh-place finishes in the 100 free (1:01.05 and 200 breast (2:53.89), and an eighth-place finish in the 50 free (27.26). Fellow senior Margot Frost (Prairieville, La.) earned top-10 finishes in the 200 free on Friday (eighth – 2:13.29) and 100 free (eighth – 1:00.75), and finished in the top 15 on Saturday in both the 200 free (2:15.90) and 100 back (1:10.58).

Junior Christine Goodman (Alexandria, La.) finished fifth in the 500 free (2:50.92) and 10th in the 100 free (1:04.47) on Friday and teamed with three others to place fifth in the 400 free relay, swimming a time of 4:19.28. On Saturday, Goodman earned a 13th-place finish in the 50 free (29.53) and her best finish of the day was sixth in the 100 breast (1:18.52).

Sophomore Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas) finished eighth in the 200 back (2:26.61) and 10th in the 200 free (2:22.1) on Friday. She was also a member of the Ladies' 400 free relay team that finished fifth with a time of 4:19.28. On Saturday, Jenkins placed sixth in the 1000 free with a time of 12:54.73 and 12th in the 100 back as she swam a time of 1:10.02. Fellow sophomore Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes on Friday as she finished eighth in the 200 fly (2:44.56) and ninth in the 200 free (2:17.77). She was part of the Ladies' team that placed fifth in the 400 free relay which swam a time of 4:19.28.

Junior Camryn Hebert (Youngsville, La.) finished ninth in the 200 IM on Friday with a time of 2:35.80 and 10th in the 500 free (6:14.74) and was part of the Ladies' team that placed fifth in the 400 free relay. She finished 12th in the 50 free on Saturday, swimming a time of 29.38 and 11th in the 100 fly (1:15.07).

The Maroon and White will welcome Hendrix to town in their next meet on Saturday, Nov. 13 on Homecoming weekend for a meet scheduled for 1 p.m.
