Ladies Record Decisive Win In Home Finale; Pick Up Seven Individual Wins

Shreveport- The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams picked up impressive wins on Saturday afternoon over the Austin College 'Roos in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet in their home finale at the Centenary Fitness Center.

The Ladies recorded a decisive 121.50-61.50 victory while the Gents registered a 94-55 win. The meet was originally scheduled for Jan. 22 and was going to serve as Centenary's annual Senior Day but was postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns. Centenary tallied 13 individual wins on Saturday, seven by the Ladies and six for the Gents, and also claimed wins in both the men's and women's 200 free relay.

The Maroon and White nearly matched its single-meet season high of 14 accomplished in the season-opening meet at home versus McMurry back on Oct. 30. The Ladies and Gents combined to record an impressive 11 individual wins and one team win versus Hendrix on Nov. 13.

Centenary and Austin College were facing each other for the second time in two weeks as the Ladies and Gents combined to record nine individual victories on Jan. 15 in the Austin College Invitational against the host 'Roos and University of the Ozarks in Sherman, Texas.

Senior Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) led the way for the Ladies with three individual wins on Saturday and now has 11 to her name this season. She won the 50 back (29.76), 50 free (26.43), and the 50 fly (27.86). Freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) won the 200 IM as she swam a time of 2:23.64 and earned a runner-up finish in the 200 free (2:02.60). The rookie also finished fourth in the 50 fly, swimming a time of 31.16. Serret and Vaula were also part of the 200 free relay team that won the event in a time of 1:48.25. Vacula now has seven individual wins and four runner-up finishes this season.

Senior Margot Frost (Prairieville, La.) had a nice finish to her home career as she won the 100 fly (1:03.78) and earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 back (31.10) and 50 fly (28.44). Frost teamed with Serret, Vaula and sophomore Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas) for the 200 free relay victory. Jenkins' best individual finish on Saturday was third place in the 50 back (32.15). She also placed fourth in both the 50 free (28.56) and 200 IM (2:33.08).

Junior Christine Goodman (Alexandria, La.) claimed a pair of wins as she won both the 50 breast with a time of 35.43 and the 100 breast (1:16.65). She also finished sixth in the 200 IM (2:33.70) and was part of the Ladies' third-place finish in the 200 free relay with junior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.), sophomore Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.), and junior Camryn Hebert (Youngsville, La.).

Malicoat recorded a pair of runner-up finishes along with a third-place finish on Saturday. She swam the 50 breast in a time of 35.51 in the 50 breast to finish behind her teammate Goodman, and finished Goodman in the 100 breast (1:18.59). She earned her third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:32.44). Anacelia Galeano-Balam finished second in both the 100 fly (1:06.82) and 500 free (6:05.63) and fifth in the 50 free (31.29). Hebert earned a trio of top-five finishes as she finished fourth in the 50 back (34.75), fourth in the 100 fly (1:11.54), and fifth in the 50 fly (31.46).

Liberty Chanin had a big day for the 'Roos as she claimed three individual wins in the 200 free (2:02.22), 100 free (57.07), and the 500 free (5:25.26). Austin College also recorded three runner-up finishes. 

Next up for the Ladies is the SCAC Championships set for Feb. 16-19 in Garland, Texas.
