Fifteen Top 5-Finishes Highlight Swimming's Performance On Saturday

Conway, Ark. – The Centenary swimming teams wrapped up a busy weekend with a double dual meet against the host Hendrix College Warriors and Rhodes College on Saturday at Bob Courtway Pool.

The Ladies and Gents opened their seasons on Friday with a double dual meet against the University of Ozarks and Rhodes in Clarksville, Ark. as the Maroon and White combined for 18 individual top-five finishes and four runner-up finishes.

Freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) highlighted the Ladies' side in Saturday's meet and the Gents were led by an impressive performance by freshman Nick Gordon (Aurora, Colo.).

The rookie Esser, who recorded a pair of runner-up finishes on Friday, won the 50 fly in a time of 27.83 and recorded two fourth-place finishes in the 50 back (29.85) and 100 fly (1:03.88). Gordon, who picked up two third-place finishes on Friday, shined on Saturday as he finished third in the 100 free (50.97), 50 fly (24.23), and 200 IM (2:16.53).

Senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) finished fifth in the 100 fly after swimming a time of 58.96, tied for fifth in the 50 free (25.38), and was a member of the Gents' 200-yard medley relay team that placed fifth in a time of 1:49.45. He also placed sixth in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.53. Senior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished seventh in both the 50 back (32.34) and 50 free (26.11) and was 12th in the 50 fly (29.48). Sophomore Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) finished eighth in the 50 back (34.06), ninth in the 50 free (26.83), 10th in the 50 breast (33.18), and teamed with Barbee, Gordon, and freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) in the 200 medley relay. The rookie Ayala also earned three top-10 finishes highlighted by placing fifth in the 100 back (1:04.25) and finishing 10th in the 50 fly with a time of 27.50 and 10th in the 100 breast (1:12.03).

Several Ladies had strong meets, as junior Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) picked up a trio of top five-finishes as she finished fourth in the 500 free (5:34.21), fifth in the 100 back (1:07.84), and fifth in the 200 free (2:10.64). Freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) was impressive for the second day in a row as she placed fourth in the 100 breast (1:11.62), fourth in the 50 breast (33.45), and fifth in the 200 IM (2:20.32).

Freshman Allie Matherne (Cut Off, La.) swam a time of 1:03.77 to finish sixth in the 100 free, seventh in the 50 breast (36.52), and finished eighth in the 100 breast (1:20.26). Freshman Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas) finished eighth in the 50 breast (39.08), ninth in the 100 free (1:07.85), and 10th in the 100 breast (1:29.19). Freshman Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) was sixth in the 200 free (2:16.86), seventh in the 100 free (1:05.40), and ninth in the 100 fly (1:15.11).

Freshman Stacy Brown (Baytown, Texas) finished eighth in the 50 free (31.59), ninth in the 200 free (2:33.05), and 10th in the 50 fly (36.04). Freshman Sydney Welch (Moss Bluff, La.) finished eighth in the 50 back (38.40) and finished 10th in the 100 back (1:35.32). Sophomore Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) finished ninth in the 50 back (40.69) and 100 back (1:32.16) and senior Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) finished sixth in the 50 free (30.71), seventh in the 50 fly (30.80), and eighth in the 100 fly (1:11.28).

Centenary remains on the road as the Maroon and White will face McMurry University in consecutive road meets on Oct. 13-14 in Abilene, Texas
