Vacula And Waddell Each Record Trio Of Wins On Saturday Meet At Millsaps

Flowood, Miss. - Junior Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) and freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) each recorded a trio of individual wins on Saturday to highlight an impressive performance by the Ladies and Gents against the Millsaps College Majors in a non-conference dual meet at GRIT Training.

Centenary finished with 13 combined individual victories from both the Ladies and the Gents after also recording 13 on Oct. 13-14 in a pair of meets against McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. 

Waddell and Vacula were also part of the Ladies' 200 medley relay team that swam a time of 2:01.38 to finish second, as they were joined by freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) and freshman Allie Matherne (Cut Off, La.). Waddell claimed wins in the 200 breast (2:32.65), 200 IM (2:19.96), and 100 breast (1:09.76) and Vacula won the 1000 free (11:39.30), 500 free (5:44.80), and 100 back (2:24.82).

Esser won a pair of events herself, swimming a time of 1:06.60 in the 100 back and 1:03.69 in the 100 fly. She also earned a runner-up finish in the 50 free, swimming a time of 26.49. Matherne finished third in the 100 free (1:04.18), fourth in the 100 breast (1:21.10), and fifth in the 50 free (29.31). Freshman Sydney Welch (Moss Bluff, La.) finished fourth in the 100 back (1:27.25) and fourth in the 200 back (3:11.36) and freshman Stacy Brown (Baytown, Texas) placed fourth in the 200 IM (2:55.55) and sixth in the 50 free (30.33).

Freshman Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) finished third in both the 200 free (2:20.73) and 200 fly (2:49.74), and teamed with Welch, freshman Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas), and senior Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) to finish second in the 400 free relay (4:37.56). St. Clair finished fifth in the 100 free (1:07.77) as well as fifth in the 100 breast (1:26.32), and Galeano-Balam earned a runner-up finish in the 200 fly (2:46.56) and finished third in the 100 fly (1:16.33). Sophomore Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) finished third in the 200 breast (3:28.46) and fifth in the 100 back (1:31.29).

Barbee won the 1000 free (11:20.22) and 200 fly (1:14.80) and finished third in the 100 free (54.49). Gordon claimed wins in the 100 free (52.52) and 100 fly (54.37) and earned a runner-up finish in the 50 free (22.82). Barbee and Gordon teamed with freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) and sophomore Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) to finish second in the 200 medley relay as they swam a time of 1:49.62.

Ayala won the 200 breast (2:32.15) and finished second in both the 200 IM (2:16.01) and 100 breast (1:10.30). Feeney finished third in both the 100 breast (1:11.82) and 200 breast (2:45.82). Freshman Gunnar Durham (Lufkin, Texas) finished third in the 100 fly (1:01.87) and swam a time of 2:14.71 to finish fourth in the 200 free and 26:38 to place fourth in the 50 free. Senior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) earned a pair of runner-up finishes - in the 100 back (1:13.60) and in the 500 free (5:59.00), and finished third in the 200 free (2:07.49).  

The Maroon and White will hold their annual Intrasquad/Alumni Meet on Homecoming weekend, set for Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at 1 p.m.).
