Shreveport - The Centenary Men's and Women's Swimming teams have been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Ladies and Gents returned to action for the first time in the New Year with a pair of impressive meets.
Centenary earned a victory over Millsaps College at home last Wednesday by a combined team score of 231-207 in which the Ladies and Gents recorded an impressive 42 top 10's. The Ladies recorded a 136-85 win while the Gents came up short, 122-95.
Junior Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) and freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) highlighted the effort on the women's side with three individual wins apiece, and freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) and senior Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) each picked up a pair of wins.
Freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas), senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.), and freshman Nick Gordon (Aurora, Colo.) paced the men's side with two wins each.
On Saturday, Centenary finished its busy week by competing in the Austin College Invitational in Sherman, Texas. The Maroon and White matched wits with The University of Texas Permian Basin, a division II school, McMurry University, the host 'Roos, and the University of St. Thomas. Vacula had Centenary's best individual finish of the meet as she finished second in the 1650 free as she swam a time of 19:32.01 to finish behind UTPB's Chloe Siegrist. The Gents earned 14 individual top-10 finishes as the Ladies earned 234 points while the Gents tallied 212.

Centenary returns home on Saturday, Jan. 20 against Austin College for its annual Senior Day Meet set for 1 p.m. The Maroon and White then will be off for three weeks in preparation for the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships set for Feb. 14-17 in Garland, Texas.
