Shreveport– The Centenary men's soccer team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Gents finished 1-0-1.
The Gents (3-3-2) earned a 2-2 tie against East Texas Baptist University on Thursday in Marshall, Texas and capped off the week with a 3-2 comeback win over Howard Payne at home on Saturday.
Senior F Rene Escobar (Cypress, Texas) scored a goal in both matches this past week and freshman F Zack Bowers (Missouri City, Texas) scored his first-career goal against ETBU and tallied an assist versus Howard Payne. Freshman D Dylan Clark (Allen, Texas) converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute for the winning goal in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Howard Payne.
Centenary junior Sam Brocato (Leesville, La.) made his third start of the season for the Gents against Howard Payne and picked up the win as he played all 90 minutes and made a season-best seven saves. He recorded four saves in the match at ETBU.
The Gents have surpassed last season's win total and improved to 3-0-1 at home this season and are 5-2-5 at Mayo Field over the last two seasons.
The Gents will be off for the next five days before beginning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home on Friday versus Colorado College in a match set for 7 p.m.
