Cole Collins Named To D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Shreveport - Centenary junior 2B Cole Collins (Shreveport, La.) was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Thursday, a prestigious national honor that recognizes the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week.

Collins had an amazing offensive series versus Alma College at home Feb. 20-21 as he was a scorching .428 (6-8) with three home runs, three doubles, eight RBI, eight runs scored, three walks, and three stolen bases. Collins is the team leader in home runs (3) and is second on the team with nine RBI. He is hitting .538 with an OBP of .647 and is slugging over 1.000 with three doubles and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with four.

In game two of a DH versus Alma on Feb. 21, Collins went 3-3 with two home runs, including an inside the park HR, a double, five RBI, three runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base in one of the most impressive offensive performances by a Centenary player in recent memory. He launched a towering leadoff solo home run to left-center in the third after a two- RBI double in his first at-bat in the first inning. He walked and scored in the sixth.

With two outs in the fourth inning and just one inning after his first home run, Collins stepped to the plate with two outs and senior C/ Ben Bridges (Beckville, Texas) standing on first after being hit by a pitch. Collins then ripped a 1-0 pitch into the right-centerfield gap that slammed off the wall and fell between Robinson and RF Scott Crawford. Inexplicably, neither player picked the ball up and once Robinson did, he seemed surprised to see Collins racing toward third base. Centenary head coach Mike Diaz waived Collins home and he slid in safe as finally a throw arrived but came late and was wildly high. Collins finished the series a scorching .428 (6-8) with three home runs, three doubles, eight RBI, eight runs scored, three walks, and three stolen bases.

The Diamond Gents begin a seven-game west coast road trip on Saturday with a non-conference contest versus Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 12 p.m. (2 p.m. CT) at Arce Field in Claremont, Calif.
