Crowley, La. - The Centenary football team recorded a 23-6 victory over the John Melvin University Millers on Saturday afternoon at Gardner Memorial Stadium.

The Gents (5-0) defeated the Millers (2-4) for the second time this season following a 57-0 victory on Sept. 16 in Shreveport.

Centenary opened the scoring with a safety as freshman LB Devon Strickland (Shreveport, La.) recorded a sack in the end zone. On the Gents' second offensive series, freshman WR Devin Ardoin (Mamou, La.) capped a seven-play drive with a one-yard TD run and freshman K Russell Skipper Jr. (North Richland Hills, Texas) added the PAT for a 9-0 lead.

The Gents' next drive also ended in a touchdown as freshman QB Jalen Robinson (Amite, La.) kept it himself for a six-yard score to make it 16-0 as the Maroon and White took that lead into the locker room at the half.

Centenary scored early in the second half following an eight-play drive covering 40 yards as freshman TE Isaiah King (Weatherford, Texas) caught a 15-yard TD pass from Robinson and Skipper converted the PAT at the 8:57 mark of the third period.

The Millers avoided the shutout by scoring on a strip ack and fumble return for 38 yards late in the third quarter. John Melvin went for two but it failed. Centenary, which defeated North American University on Monday night in Houston by a score of 47-0, was scored upon for the first time in 11 quarters of action on Saturday. The Gents have outscored the opposition 240-39 this season.

Sophomore RB Josh Ware (Shreveport, La.) and freshman RB Daylen Robinson (Minden, La.) shared the workload on the ground. sophomore LB Marlon Young (Shreveport, La.) and senior DL DJ Smith Bossier City, La.) each had huge games defensively as Young finished with six tackles and a fumble recovery and Smith had five tackles, a sack, and blocked a punt which he recovered. Strickland, in addition to his safety, had nine tackles. Sophomore DL Zyon Lilly (Shreveport, La.) had five tackles

Centenary will next be in action on Wednesday, Oct. 18 against TWA College at home. The contest was originally scheduled to be played at Evangel Christian Academy but will now be played on campus at Mayo Field and will kick off at 6 p.m.
