2021 Centenary Men's Golf Season Preview

San Antonio, Texas – The Centenary men's golf opens its 2021 season on Monday as the Gents will begin play in the Alamo City Classic at the Quarry Golf Club.

The Gents will be in action for the first time last March, playing 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. Centenary competed in five tournaments last season, winning one and placing in the top five in two others.

We are finally seeing the competition light at the end of the tunnel and we are more than excited," said Centenary head coach Emlyn Aubrey.

"Practice scores for the Gents have been very encouraging and now we just have to take that with us to our first event in San Antonio."

The Gents will go with a lineup which features a pair of freshmen in Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) and Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) along with seniors Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) and Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas), and sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic).

"Seniors Brodey Warner and Harrison John bring the experience as they have never missed a tournament in their Centenary careers," said Aubrey.

"Sophomore Richard Polan had the lowest scoring average last year of our returners and freshmen Ricky Blair and Riley Chase are looking to fill the void left last by season's graduates.

Aubrey mentioned that senior Gage Garber (Coppell, Texas) and sophomore Devan Martin (Watson, La.) are also showing signs that they are ready to grab a starting line-up spot at any moment displaying the depth that this season's Gents possess.

Polan earned a third-place finish at the Pinecrest Intercollegiate last March in Longview, Texas in what wound up being the Gents' final tournament of the season. He shot a 2-over par 215 to finish just two shots off the lead. John tied for 24th place in the tournament and Warner tied for 26th.

Warner was the Gents' top finisher at the Tempest Intercollegiate last season as he placed third overall after shooting a final-round 76. John tied for 26th in the event while Polan placed 30th.

Polan helped lead the Maroon and White to a victory in the Louisiana College Fall Invitational last season as he fired back to back rounds of 73 to tie for second place as Centenary's top finisher at 2-over 146. Warner finished fourth after shooting a 4-over 148 (76-72), and John tied for seventh place at 7-over 151.

Centenary will face Hendrix on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Club at Huntington Park and then travel to Longview, Texas for the annual Pinecrest Intercollegiate March 8-9.

The Gents will host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational March 21-23 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled for April 19-20 in Blanco, Texas.
