Men's Golf Set for SCAC Championships

Blanco, Texas - The Centenary men's and women's golf teams will compete in the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday and Tuesday at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

The Ladies and Gents will be joined by six fellow SCAC members; Dallas, St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran, Trinity, Schreiner, and Southwestern (women only) for the two-day annual championships. The course layout for the men is par 72 with a yardage of 6,864 and par 72 for the women as well with a yardage of 5,855.

Day one of competition will be held on Monday with the first round for the women and rounds one and two for the men followed by a final second round on Tuesday for the women and round three, the final round, for the men.

"We are just ready to go," said Centenary head coach Emlyn Aubrey.

"They've been gearing up all semester getting ready for this moment. If they can stay in the present, we will do quite well I believe."

The Gents finished third in the MUW Invitational hosted by Mississippi University for Women last Tuesday as the Gents shot a 29-over par 597 for the two-day tournament at the Mississippi State Golf Course in Starkville, Miss.

Centenary had four of its five golfers earn top-15 finishes and all five placed in the top 20. Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) and senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) tied for 11th place to lead the Gents as each shot a 7-over par 149 for the tournament. Warner carded a 2-over 73 on Tuesday, Centenary's lowest round of the tournament after shooting a first-round 5-over 76. Polan, who shot a 3-over par 74 in Monday's first round, shot a 4-over 75 on Tuesday.

Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) tied for 13th (74-76 – 150) at 8-over par for the tournament, and freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) shot 77-74 – 151) to finish 9-over par and one shot behind John to earn a tie for 15th. Fellow freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot 75-80 – 155) to finish at 13-over par and tied for 19th place. The Gents' lineup this week will consist of (in order): Polan, Warner, John, Chase, and Blair.

The Ladies finished in fourth place in the 2021 Linda Lowery Invitational in their most recent action on March 30 at the Lakecliff Golf Club in Spicewood, Texas. The Ladies, playing their third tournament in a span of eight days, shot a 99-over par 383 in Tuesday's final round to finish with a two-day total of 760 after an opening round 93-over 377 on Monday, their lowest round of the season.

Junior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas) and senior Shannon Orlopp (Rogers, Ark.) each shot a 22-over 166 for the tournament to tie for 10th place. Junior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas) shot a 108 on Tuesday after a 104 on Monday to finish 22nd with a 212 total and freshman Madison Wing (Shreveport) shot a 109 on Tuesday after a 107 on Monday to post a 216 total and finished 23rd. The Ladies will go with a lineup of, in order: Hayes, Orlopp, Wing, and Strohm.
