Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Alamo City Classic

San Antonio, Texas – The Centenary men's golf finished in fifth place in their first tournament of the season, wrapping up the final round on Tuesday in the Alamo City Classic held at the Quarry Golf Club.

The Gents finished at 20-over par 588 for the two-day event, after finishing Monday's two rounds in a tie for fifth place after shooting a 7-over par 291. Tournament host Trinity won the tournament, finishing at 5-under par 563, 11 shots ahead of runner-up Mary Hardin-Baylor (574, +6). The University of Dallas placed third after shooting a 7-over par 575 total, and Texas Lutheran placed fourth at 10-over 578.

Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) was the Gents' top individual as she shot a 2-over par 144 for the tournament to place 10th overall. He fired an even-par round of 71 on Tuesday after opening the tournament with a 2-over 73 on Monday. Centenary freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) tied for 15th place in his Gents debut, finishing at 4-over par 146 after shooting rounds of 71-75.

Trinity's DJ Springer claimed the individual title with solid rounds of 69-68 to finish at 5-under par 137, finishing two strokes ahead of William Sammons of Mary Hardin-Baylor and three ahead of Texas Lutheran's Chase Maus, who led after Monday's action.

Centenary freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) tied for 23rd place after shooting rounds of 71-78 – 149), senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) finished in a tie for 26th (76-74 – 150), and senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) finished in a tie for 30th place (77-77 – 154).

Polan picked up right where he left off last season as he had the lowest scoring average last season among all returners and picked up a pair of top-five finishes.

Centenary will next face Hendrix on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Club at Huntington Park and then travel to Longview, Texas for the annual Pinecrest Intercollegiate March 8-9.

The Gents will host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational March 21-23 at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City. The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships are scheduled for April 19-20 in Blanco, Texas.
