Men's Golf Finishes Third In MUW Invitational

Starkville, Miss. - The Centenary men's golf team finished third in the MUW Invitational on Tuesday as the Gents shot a 29-over par 597 for the two-day tournament at the Mississippi State Golf Course.

Centenary shot a 15-over par 299 on Monday in round one to sit in third place entering Tuesday's action. William Carey University won the team title after shooting a 12-over par 580. Faulkner University's "A" team placed second, six shots back of the lead after finishing at 18-over 586.

Tournament host Mississippi University for Women finished fourth (33-over par 601) and Faulkner's "B" team finished fifth (+42, 610). Antoine Djellab of William Carey and Faulkner's Tom Ammann each shot even-par 142 to tie for the individual lead.

Centenary had four of its five golfers earn top-15 finishes and all five placed in the top 20. Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) and senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) tied for 11th place to lead the Gents as each shot a 7-over par 149 for the tournament. Warner carded a 2-over 73 on Tuesday, Centenary's lowest round of the tournament after shooting a first-round 5-over 76. Polan, who shot a 3-over par 74 in Monday's first round, shot a 4-over 75 on Tuesday.

Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) tied for 13th (74-76 – 150) at 8-over par for the tournament, and freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) shot 77-74 – 151) to finish 9-over par and one shot behind John to earn a tie for 15th. Fellow freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot 75-80 – 155) to finish at 13-over par and tied for 19th place.

The Gents now turn their focus to next week's annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships set for April 19 and 20 in Blanco, Texas.
