Gents Seventh Heading Into Final Round Of SCAC Championships

Blanco, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team is seventh after round one of the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

The Gents shot a 41-over par 617 on Monday and will play their final 18 holes on Tuesday. Centenary is joined by Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity at the par-72, 6,864-yard course. Trinity is the leader after the first two rounds after the Tigers shot a 15-over par 591.

Southwestern is second, two shots behind Trinity, at 17-over 593, Schreiner is third (+21 597), Dallas and Texas Lutheran are tied for fourth (+32 608), and St. Thomas is five shots ahead of the Gents in sixth place at 36-over par 612.

Junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) led the way for the Gents on Monday as she shot even par (144) after rounds of 71 and 73 and is tied for fourth place with Jackson Lehner of Dallas, just five shots behind individual leader Christian Rodriguez of Southwestern (5-under 139). Polan is fresh off the first individual win of his career on April 4, the 2022 Rhodes Spring Classic in Millington, Tenn. Polan finished in a tie for seventh place at last season's SCAC Championships to earn Second-team all-conference honors.

Three Gents - senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.), sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.), and sophomore Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) are all currently in the top 25 after two rounds of play. John and Blair are tied for 23rd at 13-over par 157 and Bennett is tied for 25th place at 15-over 159. Junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) is tied for 35th place after shooting a 23-over par 167 and freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) is 41st at 41-over 185.

Bennett has two top-10 finishes this season and three top-20 finishes. Blair has fourth-career top-20 finishes. John tied for 25th at last season's SCAC Championships. Martin and Jones are each making their debut in the event.

Centenary will tee off beginning at 9:36 a.m. on Tuesday through 10 a.m. and is paired with St. Thomas.
