Gents Finish Seventh At SCAC Championships; Polan Third

Blanco, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team finished seventh at the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

The Gents shot a final-round 13-over par 301 in Tuesday's final round after shooting a 41-over par 617 on Monday in rounds one and two to finish at 54-over par 918 for the tournament. Southwestern won the team title after shooting a 25-over par 889 to edge Trinity by one shot (26-over 890).

Texas Lutheran finished third, Schreiner placed fourth, St. Thomas finished fifth, and Dallas sixth. Southwestern's Christian Rodriguez defeated Texas Lutheran's Tobey Willis in a playoff to win the individual title. Junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) finished third after shooting a 1-under par 215. Polan was one of just four golfers to finish at or under par.

Polan earned First-Team All-SCAC honors with his top-three finish after earning second-team all-conference honors last season as he finished in a tie for seventh place. Polan shot 71-73-71 this week. Sophomore Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) finished 19th after shooting 17-over par 233. He shot a 2-over par 74 in the final round, his lowest of the tournament. Bennett recorded four top-20 finishes this season.

Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) tied for 23rd place after shooting a 19-over par 235. Sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) finished in a tie for 30th at 26-over par 242 and recorded five top-30 finishes this season. Junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished 34th at 29-over 245, and freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) shot a 58-over par 274 to finish 41st.
