L'Muriell Thrower Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

Shreveport – The Centenary volleyball program has announced the hiring of L'Muriell Thrower as assistant coach, as the former Grambling State University student-athlete has joined the staff.

"I am very excited about L'Muriell joining our staff," said Centenary head coach Ashley McDonough. We are really appreciative of Director of Athletics and Recreation David Orr, Bob Blue, and Dr. Holoman for signing off on our first full-time assistant coach.

"This has already opened up so many more opportunities for our student-athletes to get one on one coaching and attention. L'Muriell comes to us from Grambling State University; a program which we have a great working and competitive relationship with. It was really fortunate that she was available to take on this position."

Thrower, who was born in Houston but grew up in Shreveport, prepped at Evangel Christian Academy before her successful collegiate career at Grambling. She was a member of the Dean's list in 2016 and the President's List in 2017. She also received the "2018 Overachiever award" and "Heart of the Team" award in 2019. She was named the 2015 MVP of her Evangel squad and helped lead the Lady Eagles to the district title. She was also named the 2015 Regional Volleyball Player of the Year.

She will assist McDonough not only with the Ladies team but also the men's club team, which is entering its second season.

"To be a staff member here at Centenary College means a lot to me," said Thrower. It is a great opportunity to be a part of both growing programs. They were so welcoming and arms open that I felt like I was already a part of their family.

"I'm excited on where these programs are going and what we have planned for the future and I am so proud to be on this team!"

The Maroon and White will hit the ground running with a pair of opening weekend tournaments and highlighted by multiple conference divisional events and 11 home matches.

The Ladies will take a unique approach to the start of their season this weekend as the roster will be split evenly, with half of the team headed to the Highlander Invitational hosted by Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. and half participating in the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational in Jackson, Miss. Centenary will play eight matches over two days this weekend.
