Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: March 22 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: March 22 Edition

Sup' It's the Junior Class (Rylie, Izzie, and Roxy) here with this week's gym talk!

What a week the Ladies have had leading into MIC Championships! Starting our meet week off early, we practiced in Dome for the last time this season on Tuesday and had our last dome tear down with this year's seniors. Then the ladies packed their bags and on Wednesday headed to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to get a good night's rest before their practice day on Thursday. We started off our practice day by playing volleyball with Illinois State University… let's just say we are going to leave that sport to the professionals. Shoutout to all the volleyball players out there. The Ladies rocked practice day, but unfortunately the construction site next door also rocked Illinois States bus. So, the Ladies got to ride back to the hotel with the Redbirds! After working out our bodies it was time to work out our mind with some study hall. The Ladies are student-athletes, so finding time to study on the road is important! After we wrapped up study, the Ladies went back up to their rooms to get ready for the MIC Championship Banquet!

We headed to the hotel conference all nice and did up! Wow are the MIC gymnasts' athletes or models? No one can tell! During the banquet 11 out of 16 of our Ladies were titled MIC Scholar Athletes. One of those amazing Ladies was also awarded the Sylvia Keiter Beast Award, shoutout to freshman… oops sorry lol (if you know you know), I mean sophomore Emma Lavelle. Possibly even more nerve wrenching then the meet itself, is the drawing to see what events everybody will start on. The Ladies, while we drew last, got a good pick and were excited to start on beam and show the conference what we were made of.

Heading into meet day, excitement was high with all four visiting teams in the hotel getting ready. Once we were all ready to go, we got our usual pre meet sandwiches and headed to the meet site. Our warmup was great, and we were so pumped for the game time. The Ladies started the meet off strong on beam and went up from there. We finished the meet off with a 188.875. Way to go Ladies!

The excitement of the weekend wasn't over though. We waited all weekend to find out which of the Ladies made it to USAG Nationals. We had 8 Ladies make it to Nationals this year! Freshmen Amy Foret (All around) and Sophie Schmitz (bars). Sophomores Emma Lavelle (beam) and Carissa Martinez (vault and floor). Seniors Kennedy Stevens (beam), Kendall Huff (vault), Leilani Johnson (floor), and Taylor Wilson (uneven bars). We are so proud of all these Ladies and can't wait to watch them in Denton, Texas.

That's all for this week's gym talk! See you next time, when we'll be Seniors!

Junior class signing off.
