Centenary Closes out California Trip with Loss to Occidental, 4-1

LOS ANGELES - Centenary (8-7) closed out its California trip with a 4-1 loss to Occidental (8-6) Monday afternoon, March 12.

Down 4-0 in the eighth, freshman Chris Haggard and junior Cameron Guin doubled to score the lone Centenary run of the game.

Freshman Rhys Harris (0-1) took the loss for the Gents, allowing two hits and three unearned runs in three innings of work.

Occidental scored three unearned runs in the fourth. After the leadoff batter reached on an error, the Tigers scored the first run of the game on Michael Netzel's double. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt moved a pair of runners into scoring position. After an RBI single by Eamon McNeil, an RBI groundout scored the final run of the game.

Will Martel (1-0) threw a complete game for Occidental, allowing four hits and one run in nine innings pitched.

Centenary returns to action in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener Saturday, March 17, in a doubleheader at Dallas. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
